The construction of hydroelectric power plants on the lower Sava
River is a major human intervention in the natural environment, both
during construction and later when the facilities become operational.
The reservoir and the infrastructure present the largest intervention;
however, the impacts during construction significantly outweigh the
impacts of facilities during operation.
When laying down guidelines and conditions for implementing environmental protection measures in accordance with the law, a number of studies have been – and are being – carried out, and the monitoring of the implementation of environmental protection requirements has also been put in place. Using suitable technological solutions to ensure consistent compliance with international standards allows our hydroelectric power plants to generate electricity in a safe and environmentally friendly way.
The company’s strategies and development plans are based around harnessing renewable energy sources and include strategies for reducing environmental impacts. That way, HESS follows the principles of sustainable development and fully complies with its comprehensive responsible environmental management system.
