2014 – the year marked by the synergy of favourable water levels, production and maintenance

The HESS company produce 534.7 GWh of electric energy in 2014, surpassing the plan for 131.7 GWh (or 33% of planned production), which is not the result of only favourable water conditions, but also of careful, planned and efficient maintenance of the hydro plants.
We have managed to realise all planned maintenance activities, directed mainly in providing a high level of the equipment availability, which is a requirement for a successful exploitation of favourable water conditions. A special attention was paid to the HPP Krško aggregates, detailed checkups of the equipment have taken place prior to the expiration of warranty, which occurred at the end of 2014.
Due to high medial discharge, our personnel have been very active, as the machines have been fully engaged (by all aggregates) for 60 days. That demanded the personnel (which is of small size) to be readily available at all times, as in addition to maintenance works, all other tasks related to the production had to be completed, as well as clearing debris and providing flood protection in the times of high water levels.
We experienced the maximum discharge of approximately 2,500 m3/s, which did not cause any disruption to the hydro plants. The risks were managed according to expectations, which is a result of a successful and expert work. In 2014 we acquired additional precious experience in the fields of maintenance and production; those will be useful after HPP Brežice and the whole row of hydro plants will be constructed.
