HPP Brežice Construction Right On Schedule
Despite the winter months, the construction of HPP Brežice is going according to schedule and contractual deadlines. With 78,000 m3 of concrete and 5,360 tonnes of reinforcing bars gone into the works to date, nearly 80% of all construction work has been completed.
Intense work is currently being put into the construction of the prefabricated powerhouse engine hall, ancillary building and outlet gate. Hoisting equipment rails are being installed and will then be fixed in position with concrete poured underneath, followed by the installation of the travelling crane and engine room gantry cranes. The roof of the prefabricated hall is being built at the same time.
Hydromechanical equipment is being installed on the spillways, the assembly and welding of the radial (Tainter) gate on spillway 3 is under way, and the planned construction operations are being carried out on spillways 4 and 5 as well. After all the radial gates have been installed, the installation of the bridge structure with all the necessary wiring and ductwork will follow.
Installation of electrical cable conduits and the laying of electrical and machine wiring and piping is currently under way in the engine room.
Intense earthworks and the construction of a high water release structure are currently under way on the reservoir, with the granting authority as developer and the company Infra d.o.o. as operating contractor. Despite the initial delay, we are expecting to see the Sava River diverted from the bypass channel onto the spillways and the bypass channel backfilled in the summer months of 2016. The construction and installation work needed before the reservoir is to be filled to capacity is scheduled to be completed in November 2016. Start-up, functional and other testing is going to take place in the first half of 2017, followed by the technical inspection and the start of the trial run in the autumn of 2017.
