HPP Brežice Getting Its Final Form
The upstream and downstream retaining construction pits are being torn down at the dam structure, and the debris is being used for backfilling the bypass channel and sections adjacent to the spillways. The powerhouse outflow section and the spillways have been flooded with groundwater, and the final diversion of the river Sava onto the spillways is scheduled for this August.
The power plant's outer left-bank platforms have been paved with asphalt, the riverbanks and the projected kayak & canoe course are being armoured with rip-raps.
Painting and tiling work continues in the powerhouse, as are the laying of mechanical installations and electrical wiring, mounting of metal frameworks, and work on the building's exteriors.
Hydraulic piping and electrical wiring for radial gate control is being laid. The installation of hydromechanical equipment – fish-belly flap gates and inlet grids – has been completed in the inlet section of the powerhouse.
Turbine equipment is being installed on all three generating units. The generator stator is being installed on the first generating unit, and the generator runner on the second generating unit; guide vanes have been installed on two generating units and are currently being installed on the third generating unit as well. The remaining two turbine covers are ready to be fitted into position.
Installation work is being carried out on electrical equipment, GIS substation control and protection boxes, as well as a 20kV switching substation and grid-connected transformer. Generating Unit 1 stator coil is being connected, as are the electrical assemblies of the hydromechanical equipment control systems.
The power plant has the following systems up and running: 20kV switching substation, 20/0.4kV unit transformer, on-site low-voltage power distribution system, on-site DC power system, diesel power generator, flow-through ducting and powerhouse drainage systems.
Intense work, carried out by the company Infra d.o.o., is also under way on the reservoir: on grout curtains, excavations, embankments and rip-raps.
The timeline for filling the reservoir to capacity remains unchanged and is scheduled for November 2016, to be followed by a technical inspection and the start of trial operation in the autumn of 2017.
