National Council members visit HPP Brežice
On Tuesday 8 May 2018, representatives from the National Council, with President Mr Alojz Kovšca included, paid a visit to the Posavje region. As part of their call on the GEN Group, they visited not only HPP Brežice but also Krško Nuclear Power Plant (NEK) and Brestanica Thermal Power Plant (TEB).
At HESS, we are pleased to see that during their visit to the region's power generation facilities, the National Council members took the time to see the largest in the chain of hydroelectric power plants on the lower course of the river Sava, where they were presented with important information on the construction of the power plant and familiarized with the fact that as much as 90% of the work and equipment was contributed by Slovenian businesses and that the construction of a single hydroelectric power plant adds 0.3% to the country's gross domestic product annually. Hydroelectric power plants are one of the few major power generation facilities that Slovenia has the knowledge and capacity to build from start to finish – from planning and design engineering to implementation and supply of equipment. After the introductory presentation of the progress of the construction of the chain of HPPs on the lower course of the Sava, given by the HESS CEO, the National Council members were excited to see a hydroelectric power plant in operation and expressed their strong support for our continuing with the construction of power generation facilities for harnessing renewable energy sources, hydroelectric power plants in particular.
To HESS, the visit and support from representatives of a national authority are also important in terms of future activities on the project to build a chain of HPPs on the lower course of the Sava, since the construction of the last hydroelectric power plant in the chain, HPP Mokrice, is still ahead of us.
