PP Brežice Construction Progress Report

Major concrete work has been completed on the dam building, abrasive concrete operations are under way on the spillways, and so are the final concrete operations on the bridge structure across the spillways and the cementing of the installed hydromechanical and turbine equipment.

Cable ducting with manholes is being built on the power plant's outer platforms; finishing of concrete surfaces, painting and tiling, fitting of doors, laying of mechanical and electrical wiring and piping, and installation of metal frameworks is under way in the powerhouse. Thermal insulation is being put in on the dam building exterior.

All radial gates have been assembled and welded into position and swung open. For controlling the radial gates, a hydraulic generator has been installed in the powerhouse, and the laying of hydraulic piping to connect to the radial gates has begun. Hydromechanical equipment – fish-belly flap gates and inlet grids – is being installed in the inlet section of the powerhouse. The powerhouse's flow-through ducts have been closed off with gates and are now ready for the construction pit to be filled with water; the same goes for the power plant's drainage system.

The installation of turbine equipment is already under way on the first and second power generating units; electrical equipment, boxes and enclosures are being installed; a diesel power generator, GIS switchyard, and grid-connected transformer have all been installed.

Intense work, carried out by the company Infra d.o.o., is also under way on the reservoir: on grout curtains, excavations, embankments and rip-raps.

With the schedule unchanged, the planned diversion of the river Sava onto the spillways is set to take place in the summer months of this year, the reservoir is to be filled to capacity in November 2016, followed by a technical inspection and the start of trial operation in the autumn of 2017.
