Public Statement covering the start of the construction works at HPP Brežice
The construction of five hydro plants on the lower Sava River has been underway since 2002, based on the Concession for Exploitation of the Energy Potential of the Lower Sava River (Nr. 354-01-61/97 on 8 July 2002) and the Conditions of the Concession for Exploitation of the Energy Potential of the Lower Sava River Act (ZPKEPS-1). The project is of a greater national significance, it is economically efficient and is a result of mainly Slovenian knowledge and skills. The project has a positive impact on the Slovenian power industry, as it provides a significant share of electric energy from renewable sources as stated in the Directive 2009/28/ES by the European Parliament and the Council on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources.
At the same time the project manages the flood protection and provides a regular concession fee to local communities. As such, the project is an important stimulation to the local economy.
The construction of HPP Boštanj, HPP Art-Blanca and HPP Krško is completed. The first two are in full operation, while HPP Krško has been undergoing a year-long trial period since 1 April 2013.
